Earning Capacity and Worklife Expectancy

Earning capacity refers to an individual’s capability to acquire money by applying their talent, skills, training, or experience. Research demonstrates that persons with disabilities earn less on average than persons without disabilities. Additionally, persons with acquired medical or mental impairments can sometimes experience a reduced work life expectancy when compared to their premorbid functioning. An assessment of the individual by a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor is necessary to determine if the impairment results in a work disability.
